Flashback to about a year ago when I thought it was a good idea to make my Goodreads goal 288 books. Brilliant, right? I thought there was no way it could possibly happen, but hey miracles happen… sometimes. Well here we are, a year later, regretting my life choices and still trying to reach that goal. 16 books in 9 days. Sure, why not. Short holiday stories, here I come!
So, here is the list of books I want to finish before the year ends. Some of these I started and temporally shelved, some just look interesting.
There was and there was not, as all stories begin, a princess cursed to be poisonous to the touch. But for Soraya, who has lived her life hidden away, apart from her family, safe only in her gardens, it’s not just a story.
As the day of her twin brother’s wedding approaches, Soraya must decide if she’s willing to step outside of the shadows for the first time. Below in the dungeon is a demon who holds knowledge that she craves, the answer to her freedom. And above is a young man who isn’t afraid of her, whose eyes linger not with fear, but with an understanding of who she is beneath the poison.
Soraya thought she knew her place in the world, but when her choices lead to consequences she never imagined, she begins to question who she is and who she is becoming…human or demon. Princess or monster. (from Goodreads)
I was a bit stuck at about 30%. I wanted some more action. Some pizazz. Something to happen, anything.
The year is 1926, and Shanghai hums to the tune of debauchery.
A blood feud between two gangs runs the streets red, leaving the city helpless in the grip of chaos. At the heart of it all is eighteen-year-old Juliette Cai, a former flapper who has returned to assume her role as the proud heir of the Scarlet Gang—a network of criminals far above the law. Their only rivals in power are the White Flowers, who have fought the Scarlets for generations. And behind every move is their heir, Roma Montagov, Juliette’s first love…and first betrayal.
But when gangsters on both sides show signs of instability culminating in clawing their own throats out, the people start to whisper. Of a contagion, a madness. Of a monster in the shadows. As the deaths stack up, Juliette and Roma must set their guns—and grudges—aside and work together, for if they can’t stop this mayhem, then there will be no city left for either to rule. (from Goodreads)
I have a weakness for Shakespeare retellings (and chocolate!). I have a feeling this will end tragically, but I still can’t wait to get my hands on it.
Elle and her friends Mads, Jenny, and Summer rule their glittering LA circle. Untouchable, they have the kind of power other girls only dream of. Every party is theirs and the world is at their feet. Until the night of Elle’s sweet sixteen, when they crash a St. Andrew’s Prep party. The night the golden boys choose Elle as their next target.
They picked the wrong girl.
Sworn to vengeance, Elle transfers to St. Andrew’s. She plots to destroy each boy, one by one. She’ll take their power, their lives, and their control of the prep school’s hierarchy. And she and her coven have the perfect way in: a boy named Mack, whose ambition could turn deadly. (from Goodreads)
I chose this for a book project months ago and never finished it. There was a lot of murdering going on and I was not prepared for it. Moral of the story: READ THE SYNOPSIS before you pick the book. I really think I would love this book, if I, ya know, finished it.
Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell have landed in America, a bold, brash land unlike the genteel streets of London they knew. But like London, the city of Chicago hides its dark secrets well. When the two attend the spectacular World’s Fair, they find the once-in-a-lifetime event tainted with reports of missing people and unsolved murders.
Determined to help, Audrey Rose and Thomas begin their investigations, only to find themselves facing a serial killer unlike any they’ve heard of before. Identifying him is one thing, but capturing him—and getting dangerously lost in the infamous Murder Hotel he constructed as a terrifying torture device—is another.
Will Audrey Rose and Thomas see their last mystery to the end—together and in love—or will their fortunes finally run out when their most depraved adversary makes one final, devastating kill? (from Goodreads)
After the last book I can’t tell if my soul is going to be crushed again or if i’ll love it??? I’m lowkey scared to find out.
Mystery-book aficionado Birdie Lindberg has an overactive imagination. Raised in isolation and homeschooled by strict grandparents, she’s cultivated a whimsical fantasy life in which she plays the heroic detective and every stranger is a suspect. But her solitary world expands when she takes a job the summer before college, working the graveyard shift at a historic Seattle hotel.
In her new job, Birdie hopes to blossom from introverted dreamer to brave pioneer, and gregarious Daniel Aoki volunteers to be her guide. The hotel’s charismatic young van driver shares the same nocturnal shift and patronizes the waterfront Moonlight Diner where she waits for the early morning ferry after work. Daniel also shares her appetite for intrigue, and he’s stumbled upon a real-life mystery: a famous reclusive writer—never before seen in public—might be secretly meeting someone at the hotel.
To uncover the writer’s puzzling identity, Birdie must come out of her shell…discovering that the most confounding mystery of all may be her growing feelings for the elusive riddle that is Daniel. (from Goodreads)
After reading Starry Eyes, I knew I had to get my hands on Serious Moonlight. But when I actually started it…. eh. I’m not really vibing with any of the characters and I’m not invested in the romance. I’m so close to finishing and I just want to be done.
Have you read any of these? What did you think of them? Which would you recommend I start with?
That’s a lot of books and only 7 to 8 days I guess. Plus these are not small. 😨 I have the violent delights on my Jan tbr😁 hope you succeed 🙂

OMG 288 BOOKS!!!
When I read Foul Is Fair I also did not expect that much murder and the teenagers in that book were despicable and cutthroat.
And can’t wait to see how These Violent Delights handles romeo x juliet!

Ahh, I only have 100 as my goal, but I have nine more to finish by the end of the year… I’ve been trying to read a book or two a day.. The last thing I would want is to get so close and then not make it by like two books 😅😬

good luck with your goal! yes it would kind of suck not to make it, but at the end of the day if you enjoyed the time reading that’s what really counts!
happy reading 💙

I haven’t read any of those XD, but if you want to finish your reading goal I suggest read short books? 200-300 pages ish, those can be blown through pretty quickly. And audio books.
Listen to em while you’re cleaning, driving, walking, doing homework (math is my favorite to do while listening to an audiobook), ect.

ah yes! i grabbed some graphic novels and shorter contemporaries from the library so hopefully i’ll be able to fly through those. and with less than half left on some of these im hoping hitting my goal in within the realm of possibility.
audiobooks are also a good idea! that way i can multitask while reading!! thank you for reading 💙

Wow, 288 is a LOT of books. I made mine 150…I’ve passed that but I don’t think I’ll reach 200 (if I added all the graphic novels in, I probably would, but I don’t have time to add all of them. I can be reading instead).
Fun fact: These Violent Delights is actually something that someone says in Romeo and Juliet. Idk, I just found that very interesting.

Yeah! Ha, turns out it’s quoted from shakespeare in the book (like, before the actual book begins but when there’s just a quote there) but I hadn’t gotten the book yet so I didn’t know. But I got it for christmas!

ooh i love it when books do that. in the right circumstances, a well placed shakespeare quote at the beginning of the book sets the scene.
ooh you got a copy from christmas! thanks so exciting.
