Happy Wednesday!

Today is the day I’ve been counting down to for weeks — blog tour day! I’ve never participated in a tour before and was so excited to be a part of one. Hip hip hooray!! Slay all day!! (Yes, slay has been my emotional support word for the last two weeks. No, I cannot seem to shake it, despite numerous attempts.)

Huge thanks to TBR and Beyond tours for providing me with an eARC!

Book: The Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School

Author: Sonora Reyes

Genre: Young Adult Contemporary

Publishing Date: May 17th, 2022

Purchase links: Goodreads Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Book Depository | Indigo | IndieBound

Seventeen-year-old Yamilet Flores prefers drawing attention for her killer eyeliner, not for being the new kid at a mostly white, very rich, Catholic school. But at least here no one knows she’s gay, and Yami intends to keep it that way. After being outed by her crush and ex-best friend, she could use the fresh start.

At Slayton Catholic, Yami has new priorities: make her mom proud, keep her brother out of trouble, and most importantly, don’t fall in love. Granted, she’s never been great at any of those things, but that’s a problem for Future Yami.

The thing is, it’s hard to fake being straight when Bo, the only openly queer girl at school, is so annoyingly perfect. And smart. And talented. And cute. Either way, Yami isn’t going to make the same mistake again. If word got back to her mom, she could face a lot worse than rejection. So she’ll have to start asking, WWSGD: What would a straight girl do? (from Goodreads)

  • Ok before we jump in, I gotta say my initial reaction to the cover is that it is GORGEOUS!!! Obsessed with the bright pop of colors going on. Full slay moment, love love love.
  • HA as long as you’re self proclaimed objectively cute
  • Y’all. It’s only the first chapter and I’m vibing so hard
  • Petition to bring back chapter titles because these are TOO GOOD
  • I’m vibing with Yami’s energy right now. #girlboss
  • Seriously, her heart is so big and some of her one liners are just GOLDEN
  • Ma’am. Why. On so many levels.
  • Bestie, noooooo
  • No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no
  • OK, loving the discussion about lesbianism and Yami becoming more confident in using the words
  • Honestly, above all, this book is honest. It doesn’t fluff-ify any thing, but with the clear-cut honest there is also hope
  • Sibling relationships = the best
  • Brutal.
  • Somehow this is the perfect blend of contemporary light while still taking on complex topics with grace and nuance. Laugh, cry, scream into the abyss, ponder my life choices? All of the above.
  • Brilliant coming of age with a focus on family and a dabbling of relationships. Seriously, this is a messy, lovable, perfect coming of age story.
