Manifesting Summer-y Weather // recs

The cold and I are not friends.

It might just be a me thing, but becoming a human popcile everytime I brave the great outdoors is just a no. Sure, I like hot chocolate. Sure, I like warm blankets. And yes, I know that both of those things are typically associated with cold weather. But if you really think about it, the common denometer between hot chocolate and warm blankets are the heat.

Unfortually, the Midwestern weather didn’t pick up on the warm weather energy that I’ve been rhymthically chanting everytime I go outside. Instead, we got snowflurries. Actual real life snow flurries, it was totally insane. And no, I was not so ready for this change. For the first time in forever, I just want normal weather in April. Please.

So yea, here we are with book reccomendations that give off warm weather energy.

Late to the Party is an ode to teendom if I’ve ever heard one. And now that I’m offically peak young adult age, I feel like I can say that with even more confidence.

Codi is 17 years old and she feels like she is missing out on the whole high school ~experience~ Lucky, a bit of a first-party-mishap leads her right to Ricky who agrees to coach her through a summer of new experiences.

Summer camp and Parent Trap vibes at their finest. When Abby finds out she has a secret sister, the two plan to meet up over the summer. Filled with cooking, pun-tastic nicknames, and an adorable friends-to-lovers romance, You Have a Match will have you running to grab a canoe.

The Ferris Wheel on the cover gives of major summer carnival vibes, and that alone gives all the warm weather energy a girl could ask for. Not to mention the god-tier sarcasm and sunshine-and-grumpy dynamic.

Saoirse is a totaly cynic and doesn’t believe in love or any of that happily-ever-after malarky. So when she meets Ruby and they decide to recreate rom-com moments, there’s no way that actual feelings could get involved. Right? Right.

Erin Hahn excels when it comes to music-centric stories, so it comes to no surprise to me that I loved reading You’d Be Mine! This book is country to the bone with peak character development to go along with it. Think A Star is Born, but make it a young adult contemporary.

I haven’t gotten in my daily dose of gushing about Sophie Gonzales’s books in today so here we do. Only Mostly Devastated is an absolute joy. That’s it. Go read it/

Hold the phone… I’m getting an update from my superiors (aka my internal voice) that I should actually eloborate on it’s brilliance.

Boy meets boy spin on Grease. Hilarious internal monolouges, forging new friendships, and a second-chance romance, Only Mostly Devastated is one to keep an eye on.

When Ever Wong’s parents send her to Taiwan to study Mandarin for the summer, she finds herself in a situation she never imagined. Little do her parents know, the program is actually an infamous teen-meet market nicknamed Loveboat. I’m sure you can guess what sort of choas ensues based on that.

In all honesty, it’s been a hot minute since I read this one, but I do know it kept me up for the late hours of the night (or maybe that was just my perpetual bad habits as a binge reader… who can tell??).

Ok bear with me on this one. Prince Charming is set in Flordia (until they head over to Scotland… but still, Florida). I mean the weather there is basically in the constant state of soupy-sweat. And what does soupy-sweat, ice cream melding, egg sizzling on the sidewalk heat mean?? Summer.

I’m going to give everyone a moment to let that foolproof logic sink in.

Ok, now that we’ve all hopped aboard that logic train, let’s get back on topic. Prince Charming is packed to the brim with an excess of dad jokes, kilts, and a protagionist that is a bit of a dork (but you love her because of it).

First, let’s take a moment to bask in the glory of this cover. Seriously. Absolutly stunning.

I don’t know about you, but I would give my left toenail to be able to travel again. As someone who typically does most traveling during the summer months, I Wanna Be Where You Are undeniably gives off big summer (and road tripping!) energy! Not to mention the trope-tastic glory that is forced proximity and rivals-to-lovers combined.

The biggest thing I remember from It Sounded Better in My Head is the authenticity and the humor. It will warm you from the inside out. Also, there is a scene on the beach?? I’m like 68% sure? So I will be taking partial credit for the whole summer-vibes.

Yellow cover = sun. Sun = summer. Summer = warm weather. I will not be taking arguements about that logic at this time. I’ll Be The One is honestly a ray of sunshine (like the cover, get it??) in book form. With a loveable protagionist, an adorbale dog, and a K-Pop competition, I’ll Be the One should be one your radar, if not already in your hands.

If it snows again tomorrow, we will offically know that I am cursed and destroying the weather here one snowflake at a time. If not, then I am going with the story that my list did in fact manifest warm weather. But until then, we are going to call this list a wrap!
